Some care is always necessary to ensure the success of surgery. They are as important as the procedure itself. We can see some basic orientation that must be given by doctor and according with the type of procedure.
Vitreo Retinal Surgery
- After surgery the eye is red and swollen
- Don’t make physical effort. Sports activities are suspended until the release of your doctor
- Don’t rub the operated eye
- Not allowed to travel by airplane if gas was injected during surgery, until it is released by your doctor
- If you have been injected gas or silicone oil, follow the orientation about the position of your head
- Watch TV, use the computer, read, sew are allowed
- Personal hygiene like wash your hair, are allowed too
- Don’t smoke or get around someone smoking for 30 days
- Always wash your hands before using the eye drops or handle the eye.
- Remove the secretion using gauze or cotton and sterile saline
- Make swab with sterile saline in the operated eye to reduce swelling of the eyelid. Avoid boric acid
- After removal the bandage, start the eye drops prescribed.
- It’s not necessary to apply the medicine during rest, unless your doctor recommends
- Don’t touch the tip of the eye drops in the operated eye
- Don’t use eye drops prescribed in non-operated
- In case of pain, use the remedy that is used (acetaminophen). If the pain persists contact your doctor
- If it makes treatment of hypertension and diabetes keep the medications
- See your doctor, in case of sickness, dizziness and nausea. Don’t expect to improve.

Facectomy
- Don’t rub the operated eye
- Don’t sleep on the operated side to not press or damage the eye region
- Not lower your head too much. Tie shoes, for example, can increase the pressure of the surgical area
- Watch TV, use the computer, read, sew are allowed
- Personal hygiene such as washing your hair, are allowed too
- In case of pain, use the remedy that is used (acetaminophen). If the pain persists contact your doctor
- If it makes treatment of hypertension and diabetes keep the medications
- See your doctor, in case of sickness, dizziness and nausea. Don’t expect to improve.

Paracentesis
- Watch TV, use the computer, read, sew are allowed
- Personal hygiene like wash your hair, are allowed too
- In case of pain, use the remedy that is used (acetaminophen). If the pain persists contact your doctor

- Always wash your hands before using the eye drops or handle the eye.
- Apply Zymar or Vigamox eye drops in the operated eye every 4 hours during the day
- See your doctor, in case of sickness, dizziness and nausea. Don’t expect to improve
Return to the doctor the next day to be valued.
